Knowing the Types of ATMs Spreading Throughout Indonesia
Luther George Simjian was the first person who initiated the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), also known as Anjungan Tunai Mandiri (Indonesia), in 1939. Over time, the machine has undergone many developments to become the ATM we know today. The types of ATMs that we can find are no longer limited to cash withdrawals. ATMs in the modern world are no longer a foreign thing because they can be found anywhere, from minimarkets, on the roadside, to shopping centers. The wide range of ATM services is inseparable from the public's need for easy, fast, and convenient financial services without spending time going to the bank.

Types of ATM

Although most people use ATMs to make cash withdrawals, there are three types of ATMs that can be found and used by bank customers for other financial transaction purposes. The three types of ATMs are:

Cash Withdrawal ATM

This type of ATM is the type of ATM with the highest number and is the easiest to find in various regions. Its function is clear: to withdraw some cash from the customer's account without coming to the bank. However, along with technological developments, this type of ATM can now facilitate customers’ carrying out almost all other financial transaction activities, such as interbank transfers, paying education fees, and paying electricity bills.

Cashless ATM

As the name implies, this type of ATM cannot be used by customers to make cash withdrawals. At this ATM, customers can only perform financial transactions such as bill payments, transfers, check balances, purchase electricity tokens, and so on.

ATM Deposit and Cash Withdraw

The last type of ATM is the Cash Recycle Machine, also known as the Deposit and Cash Withdrawal ATM. This type is a development of the ATM and Cash Deposit Machine (CDM). Through this type of ATM, customers can make withdrawals and cash deposits in addition to other financial transactions that can be done through ATMs, such as checking balances, interbank transfers, reloading credit, paying various bills, and so on. In Indonesia, these three types of ATMs can be found in various areas, both in urban and rural areas. In general, banks in Indonesia have also partnered with companies that have ATM management services to make it easier for their customers to access their services. One company that provides comprehensive ATM management services is PT Jalin Payment Nusantara, which manages the ATM Link network in Indonesia.

Identifying the ATM Link

ATM Link is the Himbara ATM network (Mandiri, BRI, BNI, and BTN) that facilitates ATM cardholder customers from Himbara bank to perform various financial transactions such as Check Balances, Cash Withdrawals, Transfers, and Bill Payments. Currently, there are more than 38,000 ATM Link units spread throughout Indonesia. Customers who want to make financial transactions can recognize ATM Link by looking at the four characteristics possessed by ATM Link. The four characteristics are in:
  • The colors used on the ATM Link casing are red and white, like the Indonesian flag, with white as the background to display the ATM Link logo.
  • Apart from the casing, ATM Link is also recognizable by a sticker attached to the ATM body or an ATM screen that displays the ATM Link logo.
  • In addition to the ATM Link logo, there are also logos from the four Himbara banks displayed side by side with the ATM Link logo on the casing, sticker, or on the ATM screen.
  • The last characteristic that distinguishes ATM Link is the receipt printed that displays the ATM Link logo.
ATM Link also offers many benefits for Himbara Bank customers. Some are free cash withdrawal fees on all ATM Link networks, free balance check fees on all ATM Link networks, and affordable Himbara interbank transfer transaction fees.
