Kartini in the Digital Era: Exploring Women-Friendly Digital Financial Products
Apr 15, 2025

Today, Indonesian women are more empowered than ever to take charge of their finances. The 2024 National Survey on Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK), conducted by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Statistics Indonesia (BPS), reveals that Indonesia’s financial literacy index has reached 65.43%, while the financial inclusion index stands at 75.02%.
What’s even more remarkable is that women are leading the way. The survey shows that women scored higher than men in both literacy and inclusion. Women achieved a financial literacy score of 66.75% (composite), compared to men at 64.14%. In terms of financial inclusion, women reached 76.08%, outscoring men’s 73.97%.
These numbers tell a powerful story. Financial access is no longer limited by gender—it’s about equal opportunity. In this digital age, women are increasingly involved in making financial decisions—whether for themselves, their families, or their businesses.
As we welcome April, the spirit of Kartini Day continues to inspire progress. It’s the perfect moment for today’s women to embrace the role of a “Digital Kartini”—a woman who is financially savvy, empowered by technology, and confident in managing money.
Thanks to innovation in digital financial services, women now have more tools at their fingertips to manage finances in a way that fits their lifestyle. So, what kind of digital financial products are friendly and empowering for modern women? Let’s explore some top recommendations:
1. E-Wallets: Simple, Smart, and Secure for Daily Use
Digital wallets have evolved from being just payment tools to becoming essential money management apps. With just one app, users can pay bills, shop, or transfer money—anytime, anywhere. Features like QR code scanning, auto-pay, and cashback deals make them especially handy for busy women—from working professionals and students to stay-at-home moms—who want to manage their spending more efficiently.
2. QRIS: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in MSMEs
Running a home business or small shop? QRIS is a game-changer. It allows you to accept all kinds of cashless payments using just one QR code—no fancy hardware required, just a smartphone. Transactions are recorded automatically, making them safer and more trackable. It’s a great solution for women in MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) looking to grow and join the digital economy.
To register, MSMEs can contact a registered bank or Payment Service Provider (PJP) listed by Bank Indonesia or use an approved QRIS application.
3. Digital Goal-Based Savings: Save Smarter, Stress Less
We all want to save, but staying consistent can be tough. That’s where digital goal-based savings accounts come in. These accounts let users automatically save a fixed amount each month via financial apps. Whether you're saving for your child’s education, emergency fund, or your next vacation, the app helps you stick to your goals—no need for manual transfers. It's a great fit for women with steady or irregular income, including homemakers working toward long-term financial discipline.
4. Micro-Investments: An Affordable Start to Financial Independence
Investment is no longer just for the wealthy. Many platforms now offer investment opportunities starting from as low as Rp10,000–50,000. Products like digital mutual funds, digital gold, and fractional shares are gaining traction—especially among Millennials and Gen Z. Micro-investing is a beginner-friendly way for women to grow their financial knowledge and build long-term assets.
Technology has opened doors, and now is the time for women to take full advantage of it. Being a Digital Kartini means more than honoring tradition—it’s about being financially empowered, digitally confident, and actively shaping your future.
Happy Kartini Day! Let’s celebrate by supporting more women in their journey toward financial freedom and independence.
